We Inform
Consistent with our goal to structure positive public understanding of the contributions, needs and problems of the aging population through design and implementation of a comprehensive information system, OSA undertakes to inform our customers in several ways.
Through our public information division, we produce a quarterly magazine called Aging In Michigan, periodic OSA Reports on a host of timely and newsworthy events and issues, and a calendar of current events.
Program staff from various divisions within OSA produce informational materials that address vital and timely issues such as elder abuse prevention. Issue Alerts are one-page fact sheets distributed to aging agencies, organizations and advocates as a means of informing the public of the latest scams and resources for assisting those who may have fallen victim to such scams.
The agency releases an annual report to the Governor and legislature which highlights our goals and accomplishments for the year in review.
Following statewide public hearings, a state plan is adopted which sets forth our goals and objectives for the years ahead.
OSA produces operating standards for services and programs funded in connection with the Older Americans Act and Older Michiganians Act. These standards define the scope and quality of service which service and program recipients can reasonably expect from any provider funded through the aging network.
In an effort to assist our partners in understanding the demographic characteristics of the aging population, OSA has provided aging specific reports and projections of census information generated either by the US Bureau of the Census or the state demographer at the Michigan Information Center. An archive of the 1990 census data is available and as soon as the 2000 census data is published, MiSeniors.net will provide it as well.
